Yunek (Pronounced “Unique”) is more than just a name of the Houston based Urban Gospel Songstress. It’s also descriptive of her eclectic mix of Neo-Soul, Urban Gospel, Rap and R&B all found on her debut project, Exodus Three: Seventeen, which released nationally on July 22, 2008 on Milk & Honey Productions, LLC with distribution by KOCH Entertainment Distribution. “I do not have to fit in a box. I am able to be uniquely old school, jazz, neo soul, and hip-hop, that’s me”, says Yunek. This “Yunek” has lead to music moguls proclaiming that Exodus Three: Seventeen embodies music that is education for the soul.
Through her writing, singing, and producing, Yunek’s songs embody a refreshing blend of reality and inspiration that is sure to reach all generations. Yunek’s vision is to Educate, Empower, Encourage, and Enlighten not only the body of Christ but also the unbeliever in a way that gives them a desire to know and live by the Fruit of the Spirit. These passions lead her to write the first single “Got Fruit” derived from how she came to know and use “the Fruit” from Galatians 5:22. With follow-up singles like the dance themed “Straddle the Fence” and “Lean on Christ” to the socially conscious “On Fire” and “Real Love”, it’s evident that Yunek intends to draw, minister to and be an example for the masses. Yunek never strays from the most important message-salvation. She explains, “Salvation is the key to real joy, it’s the only way to find and keep purpose in your life. On my album, I touch on the good and the bad, just like the Bible.” Yunek came from a Christian home and accepted Christ at an early age. As a child, Yunek was heavily involved in church, which is where she discovered her vocal talent at the age of five. However, it was not until her senior year of college at Prairie View A&M University that she had a personal and spiritual revelation of God’s purpose for her life. In preparation for God’s work, Yunek studied Audio Engineering at Media Tech Institute in Houston, Texas. “There I learned how to create music beyond it being an idea in my head... I am able to get my thoughts out on paper, through the microphone, and onto a CD!” In fact, Yunek was recognized by the Houston Chronicle as one of the most talented female audio engineers in the music business. Some of Yunek’s greatest accomplishments include her 2009 First Round Stellar Award Nomination, placement as a semi-finalist for her style, creativity, and lyrics at The Gospel Dream Showcase, which was judged by industry greats such as Kelly Price and Max Siegal as well as several performances at large scale industry events such as the annual Texas Holy Hip Hop Achievement Awards as well as several Stellar Awards Events. Yunek was also granted the opportunity to sing alongside Deitrick and Damitta Haddon. Yunek has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with musical greats and legends like Eric Benet, Teena Marie, Marvin Sapp, Canton Jones, Joanne Rosario, Sean Simmonds, Trinitee 5:7, Ziel, Dewayne Woods, 21:03, James Fortune & FIYA, Tre' 9, BB Jay, Shei Atkins, J Xavier, Urban D, Special Ed, S.O.M., Joanne Rosario, Tarsha’ Hamilton, Trinity 5:7, Darlene McCoy and more. Among Yunek’s major artistic influences, she claims India Arie, Tye Tribbet, Marvin Sapp, Jazmine Sullivan, Brandy, Beyonce, and Lauren Hill. Yunek’s songs exemplify a unique blend of passion and inspiration through her writing, singing, and producing all of which she exhibits on her CD. “I am destined to do this”, Yunek says. “This is a gift God has given me and it is my purpose to build this ministry to what God wants it to be.” Yunek has answered the call, returned to her path, and refuses to look back.the world is to change the people in it, and that"s you and me.
